Letter: Basalt needs the boutique lodging

We enjoyed this past weekend immensely with all the great festivities offered in Basalt and Aspen. Our stay at the Basalt Mountain Inn was pleasant and the new owners have brought it up to a respectable standard, but there is a huge need for a midvalley boutique property that will serve both ends of the Roaring Fork Valley (Glenwood Springs to Aspen). Having been residents of River Valley Ranch 13 years ago, Judy and I saw the need then. To think an opportunity exists right now is quite exciting, particularly for The Basalt/Willits corridor. With all the great amenities that Basalt offers in dining, outdoor recreation and just pure leisure time, the only thing missing is an upscale hotel. It could be and will be an asset that will draw an ideal demographic to the community. Importantly, it will keep people in town longer to enjoy all that Basalt and the midvalley have to offer travelers. We have been proponents for such an effort since we moved back to Denver knowing that a time would come when we could stay in Basalt at a great property. Good luck with the project which Judy and I support wholeheartedly!
