Letter: Basalt is at a crossroads: Please vote!
As Yogi Berra famously said, “When you get to a fork in the road, take it!” Basalt is at a crossroads. At the confluence of two iconic rivers, Basalt can become one of the best small towns in Colorado — for families, recreation, the arts, nonprofits and year-round tourism.
Ballots are in the mail this week and voting will continue through election day, April 5. This is an opportunity for a new generation of leadership, bringing new talents and ideas, more well-qualified women, and greater collaboration and consensus to Town Hall and the council table.
A vote for Basalt Tomorrow is a vote for Auden Schendler, Katie Schwoerer and Jennifer Riffle for council and Jacque Whitsitt for mayor. Imagine how these three women and this energized new council would set a new tone. Imagine them working together to capture this unprecedented opportunity to revitalize Old Town and preserve small-town character.
If you make this happen, imagine the first Town Council resolution. It could be unanimous, declaring a “Leroy Duroux, Rick Stevens, Herschel Ross and Rob Leavitt Day” in May. Their collective decades of contributions and service to the town they love deserve to be honored. Imagine a grand picnic or hoedown on the river for a community ready to work together for Basalt Tomorrow.
