Letter: Are we crazy or what?

Shouldn’t we be getting tired of people getting killed in our country? It doesn’t much matter whether the killers are religious fanatics, white supremists, gay-bashers or whatever — we ought to be just getting sick of it.

I’ll start off by saying that I am not a gun owner, but I really don’t have a problem with those who are. What I have a problem with are guns of mass destruction.

I know that the National Rifle Association’s mantra is “Guns don’t kill people; people do.” But guns do kill people. Lots of people. And some guns can kill a lot more people than others can. Why do people need assault weapons capable of firing lots of bullets in a very short period of time? You don’t need them for hunting, you don’t need them for target practice, and you don’t need them to protect yourself.

If the Second Amendment gives one the right to bear arms, does that mean any arms? How about a rocket-propelled grenade? Hey, how about an atom bomb?

You know what? If we banned assault weapons, there would be just as many crazies out there, but they wouldn’t be able to kill as many people. Is that a bad thing?
