Letter: Appraisal of the Basalt river park is impossible
A question with an infinite number of answers has been floating about the Basalt river-park issue. Some pro-development people have been saying that the town should not buy the river park for more than appraised value. Appraisals are made only from a privatized developer perspective based upon the zoning granted by the town and what that zoning would allow for buildings or homes to be sold on the market. Appraisals do not show the value to the public. Appraising the proposed river park from the public perspective is as senseless and impossible as appraising the value of treasures like Mount Sopris or the Maroon Bells to the public.
