Letter: An act of holiday kindness
December 27, 2013
Last week, an anonymous donor gave 175 tickets for the "Skaters on Aspen Ice" skating show to students at Basalt Elementary School and Carbondale Middle School. It was a tremendous act of kindness that brought the downvalley community much joy. I would like to thank him with this poem:
Twas the week before "Stars on Aspen Ice," and all through downvalley,
There was excitement and talk about how people could rally.
The show would be great, but money was tight.
Luckily for all, there was a surprise in sight.
When what to their wondering eyes did appear,

175 free tickets and a bus ride to get near.
The tickets were offered first come, first served;
Phone calls and emails came in with verve.
The gift of the tickets unleashed a wonderful spirit.
And all who were there could certainly feel it.
The donor gave joy, more than he could know.
He introduced skating to a new group of people, thanks to the show.
The energy rebounded and went back to the skaters,
The organizers, the performers and the creators.
From Olympians to skaters who are nationally known,
To ones from our town, our valley and close to home.
On Jeremy, on Alissa, on Rosalyn and Ashley,
On Kim and Brent, on Mariah, on Morgan and Kelly.
In "Stars on Aspen Ice," the lutzes, axels, spins and leaps made viewers' knees turn to jelly.
The skaters had unique talents, skills and graces.
Kim and Brent's death spiral inspired amazed looks on spectators' faces.
As for all the members of the Revolutions Skating Club, and the solos of Katey, Carlyn, Phoebee and Sari,
Their amazing tricks at the ARC made the show merry.
Thank you, our secret skating Santa, for this magic moment at the ARC.
It will live forever as a memory in our hearts.
We wish you a great holiday; with as much joy as you gave,
Your generosity ripples out to our community on a happy wave.
Thank you, skating Santa, from an anonymous participant
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
