Letter: A safer way to kill weeds

If you need to kill weeds, please try an alternative to Roundup and other herbicides with glyphosate in them. These chemicals cause lymphoma in dogs. And the World Health Organization this year announced that glyphosate, sold as Roundup, the most common of the nonrestricted herbicides, is “probably carcinogenic in humans.” The American Academy of Pediatrics’ report “Pesticide Exposure in Children” found “an association between pesticides and adverse birth outcomes, including physical birth defects.” A natural weed-killer recipe is: 1 gallon vinegar, 2 cups Epsom salt and 1/4 cup Dawn dish soap (blue original). I have sprayed it on weeds, and it works, but sometimes a second application is necessary. The genetically modified foods are a major source of glyphosate contamination, so speak with your dollars and buy non-genetically modified foods, also. So, keep our pets and us safe this spring!
