Letter: 20 years of English in Action
English in Action just celebrated its 20th anniversary with a fantastic party. The Wyly Art Center in Basalt was filled with tutors, students and friends who came to celebrate the people who have made our organization such a success.
English in Action works to strengthen our diverse community by helping adults learn English so that they may participate more fully in our community. Last year, more than 234 students were taught by 172 tutors who donated more than 3,300 hours of time. These hours add up to learning, friendships and a greater understanding among people in the Roaring Fork community.
It is also this community that makes an event like this not only happen but sparkle with delicious appetizers, a fun margarita contest and a celebration of English in Action’s 20 years of building community. Restaurants and bartenders from Aspen to Glenwood donated their best in support of English in Action. Backdoor Catering, Shinta Damayanti and Ketut Siladarmawan, Dos Gringos, The Goat, Jimmy’s, Riverside Grill, Roxy’s Market, Taqueria El Nopal, Whole Foods Market and Sopris Liquor and Wine provided a broad selection of food and drink. The margarita contest was organized by Mattias Houseman and Mountain Mixology, Perrin Wolfe and Suerte Tequila along with bartenders from Chef’s Club, Jimmy’s Bodega, Justice Snow’s, Phat Thai and The Pullman. James Katzenberger played the classical guitar.
English in Action is grateful to be a part of a community with so many individuals and businesses who are willing to share their time, talents and resources in support of bridging the communication gap two people at a time.
