Fire was bound to happen

The wildfire of Basalt finally happened and probability finally had is way. A hundred years of unnatural fire suppression allowed the fuels to grow and grow. Had the fire not happened this Fourth of July, it might have happened in September, or maybe next year or sometime in the next decade. The probability is about 100 percent that we would have a major fire here in this valley in our lifetime. If not the kids at the gun range, the source could have been a chainsaw, a lightning strike, an electric wire, a campfire, a firework or a house fire. It is amazing there was not more homes lost. On the bright side, there will be new forest growth. Wildlife will have new habitat. The fuel that burned is gone and is no longer a looming hazard.
