Unaffordable education seems undemocratic
Peter Maddux wrote that Congress and state legislators need to increase funding for education (“The high cost of learning,” letters, Feb. 9, The Aspen Times). You would think that one of the richest countries in the world would make higher education affordable for everyone.
When reading his letter, I was reminded of a conversation with a German parent who told us her daughter was enrolled in a university there, and she said, “And it’s free, because we’re a democracy.”
