Top 1 percent paying their part

Our nation’s tax code is already very progressive. It needn’t be confiscatory. High earners already pay more than their fair share of our nation’s tax burden.

According to the Tax Policy Center, a leading non-partisan public policy group, America’s top 1 percent of taxpayers will likely contribute 87 percent of all federal tax revenue in 2018, up from 84 percent in 2017. The bottom 60 percent of taxpayers, with an income of less than $86,000, will likely pay no federal income tax. So, please stop publishing nonsense like this: “If the 1 percent just paid their fair share, we could wipe out poverty, provide comprehensive health care, and free education through four years of college. What’s a fair share? Everything but the bare essentials. The 1 percent doesn’t deserve, hasn’t earned or, most importantly, doesn’t need any more.”

It’s time we start showing some gratitude to our nation’s breadwinners and start asking of ourselves: “Not what our country can do for us but what we can do for our country.”

Mask mandates are government overreach

I am not writing this as an opinion on pro-vax or anti-mask; this is strictly in regards to government overreach. I would like to think that I am well-versed in the regulations of private businesses…
