Remain fire vigilant

Since the critical fire weather we experienced all summer has receded and fire restrictions in the valley were rescinded (Sept. 7), I want to thank the public for following the rules and helping to keep our community safe.

While our thresholds were met to lift restrictions, we still urge you to continue to use caution with fire. If we experience hot, dry weather this fall the fuels will again dry out and we could have a fire start potentially get out of control. This fall, take the time to do wildfire mitigation around your home and create an emergency plan for you and your family (pitkinwildfire.com). Our best chance of getting through a catastrophic wildfire is having citizens that are aware and prepared to take action.
