Recognize volleyball pioneers

The Motherlode, which was started by Gordon Whitmer and Howard Ross, the owner and manager of the restaurant, were transplanted Californians who wanted more diversity in the sports of summer in Aspen. They and Dick Arnold and Leon Fell are responsible for the introduction of sand courts into the Aspen scene, which become the center of the large and very popular tournement. So when you enjoy the tournement this weekend, give a nod to these great guys.
