You can help transform Basalt

Basalt voters are receiving mail-in ballots and have an opportunity to support a funding mechanism that will:

1) Restore the environmental and aesthetic beauty to the Pan and Fork in downtown Basalt.

2) Create a riverfront park to provide long overdue safe and open access to our river.

The vision for this project was spearheaded by the citizens of Basalt over 10 years ago and has seemed like an impossible dream ever since. Today the dream is becoming a reality.

The many citizens who worked on the River Master Plan had a vision that a town center and river park would revitalize downtown Basalt and be the single greatest investment we would ever make in our historic and unique riverfront town.

Kudos to their commitment, stamina, and vision!

In the coming months, Basalt citizens will have an opportunity to come together to share ideas for a river park and a downtown that lives up to the riverfront designation. We are the only downtown in the valley sitting smack dab on the river. Let’s make the Roaring Fork River roar like it was meant to! And let’s do it sooner and cheaper rather than later and at higher costs.

Bond payback will come from existing revenues including open space funds, general fund dollars and special district revenues obtained from developers near the river who want to help the community with a fair share of the improvement costs,

There is also in-depth information about technical and aesthetic river restoration work and funding specifics at http://www.FixTheFork.org. You can also call Town Hall at 927-2414 or me at 927-2414.

Vote “yes” on 2B if you want to see downtown Basalt transformed into the river town that will become our community playground!

Jacque Whitsitt

Mayor, Basalt
