Letter: Working for mental health

April is National Alcohol Awareness Month, and on the 7th, the Aspen Strong Foundation paired up with Jaywalker, Aspire Recovery for Women, Shadow Mountain Recovery and A Way Out to talk about the effects of alcohol abuse and to promote screenings to help our community be more curious about their mental hygiene. So far this month, 70 screenings have been taken by Aspen Strong and our five partners: the city of Aspen, Valley Health Alliance, The Aspen Clinic, Roaring Fork Neurology and Mountain Family Health. Screenings are quick, educational and anonymous, and they allow our community to know what its mental-health needs may be. Additionally, the screenings promote personal mental hygiene in asking yourself questions related to mental health that you may not have asked yourself before.

I want to especially thank Jim and Nikki Soda, Jaywalker, Liz Means, Kathleen and MaryMike Haley, Brad Osborn, Mountain Family Health and Mind Springs Health for coming out to support these efforts! Special thanks to Tasters Pizza for donating pizza. Thank you to The Aspen Clinic and the city of Aspen for hosting. A big thank-you to our volunteers and to all of you who came out, including a representative from the City Council, to bring back knowledge to your employees, friends and family about maintaining mental hygiene. Last, to The Aspen Times for promoting and supporting our efforts, thank you!
