Letter: Why is this toxin back in our water?
Last Wednesday local professionals stood before and assured the Snowmass Village Water Board that every “peer reviewed” study proved that adding fluoride to water is absolutely safe. One dentist even dropped the “conspiracy” bomb, deriding the world view of many citizens who insisted something is very wrong. “Peer reviewed” studies do not reflect our reality. Everywhere we look we find evidence that fluoride is a dangerous neurotoxin doing untold damage to bodies, minds and environment.
Horror stories really. A valley resident testified she became seriously ill, traveled to Denver, consulted with specialists and learned her illness is caused by … fluoride.
Even as fluoride has been linked to a long list including cancer, hypothyroidism and dementia few to no studies have appeared. For instance, last March Newsweek reported a growing concern for a correlation between fluoridation and the prevalence of Attention Deficit
In 2006, EPA standards concerning Neurotoxicity and Neurobehavioral effects of fluoride declared that “It is apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with functions of the brain and body. To determine the possible adverse effects of fluoride, additional data from both the experimental and the clinical sciences are needed.”
According to the testimony of a local dentist Dental Fluorosis is not a problem. The truth is that Dental Fluorosis is a visible symptom of overexposure to fluoride and is a major health issue in the United States and worldwide (even without fluoridation). If overexposure causes damage to teeth, imagine what it is doing to brains, bones, thyroids, etc.
The vision of improved dental health, especially for the lower class is a truly progressive idea. But at what cost? And is there a better way? 97 percent of Europe answers, way too high and there is.
So why is this toxin back in our water? One board member who publicly declared against fluoride and whose vote was labeled swing, said his vote reflected public input including the recent non-binding survey. Note to member: We expect our leaders to legislate on principle, to do more than follow the herd. Hopefully, you may reconsider, soon.
This controversy boils down to paradigms, world views, how one perceives reality. The paradigm of many medical professionals has been created and influenced by the very institutions that insist fluoride is safe. After all, in 2013 the CDC itself listed fluoride in public water as one of the 10 great public health achievements in the 20th century. End of story.
From that perspective it is understandable why many professionals actually believe arguments against fluoride to be “conspiracy theories.”
However, as concerned citizens, not conspirators, we simply ask you to honor the Hippocratic Oath, “first do no harm.” There is no possible way to prescribe a safe dosage of this toxic medicine to all your countless patients. End of story.
Meanwhile, if you happen to shallow instead of spit fluoride toothpaste immediately call the nearest poison control center as per the official warning on every tube. But don’t worry … fluoride is absolutely safe.
