Letter: The next generation
This winter, more than 1,700 local children flocked to Buttermilk, Snowmass and Aspen Highlands for recreational skiing and riding lessons. One of every three were on a scholarship. Sixty percent live west of Basalt. Three hundred participants enjoy free shuttle service to the mountains. The sheer scale of the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club Base Camp Program and our unique partnership with Aspen Skiing Co. still astounds me! Who helps me herd this rowdy crowd of local kids? Twelve on-mountain coordinators, 18 bus chaperones, five gear truck drivers, 320 Skico pros, D&E and Gorsuch rental shop staff and all those patient patrollers, lifties and ticket-window staff.
High fives! I couldn’t do it without you.
