Letter: Thank you, Aspen

I’m bedside at St. Anthony Hospital as I write this note. On July 5 at about 5:15 p.m., my sweetie, Nadine Adamson of Denver and Aspen, borrowed my townie bike to run to the store from Smuggler to City Market. On her return, coming down Neil Street Hill from Main Street, she crashed over the handlebars onto her head. I was not with her. A friend from the neighborhood saw the commotion and aftermath with blood and ambulances and recognized her. He called me to let me know to go to Aspen Valley Hospital as soon as possible. Upon examining her, the hospital discovered a traumatic brain injury and sent her off to Denver by helicopter. It’s been roughly 60 hours. We’re praying that she will have a full recovery. She’s getting a little better every day — some broken bones, brain trauma, etc. — but has a long way to go.

I wanted to write however to give a huge thank-you to the folks in Herron Park that rallied to her aid and called 911, and to all the care personnel from the Sheriff’s Department and ambulance guys to emergency room staff and doctors. We live in a wonderful town, but it’s my community and my neighbors that make me so grateful to live among such wonderful people. Thank you everyone who helped. God bless you all.
