Letter: Support tennis-center plan
Wow! Have we got junior tennis talent in the valley. Last weekend, the Elks Junior Tennis Challenger was held at the Aspen city courts courtesy of the Aspen Elks and run by Gary Quandt, Gayle Godwin and King. It was an amazing group of talented juniors from 8 to 18 from all over the valley and guests from other parts of the nation. Thank you, Aspen Elks, for hosting this, and thank you Gary, Gayle and King, for the time and effort you put into organizing this tennis tournament.
Seeing the amazing talent of the local kids makes me wonder how this talent could soar even more if they could train year-round in our valley. The shots, serves and competition were so intense at times, and this was from just practicing April through October. It is a shame that only one school in our valley has both a boys and girls tennis team (Aspen) and only one school in the RE-1 and RE-2 districts have a girls tennis team (Glenwood). With an indoor tennis center, we could have a traveling tennis team that would rival the Front Range’s teams and also bring both boys and girls tennis teams to Basalt High School.
How about it, folks and businesses of the Roaring Fork Valley? Let’s dig down deep in our pockets for loose change and help these kids continue to dig deep on their talents and give them a shot at a year-round tennis training center. Check out http://www.advantageindoortennis.org to bring the only public indoor tennis center at Crown Mountain to the Roaring Fork Valley.

I would like to make a comment to Aspen-Pitkin County Housing Authority, city of Aspen, Aspen Skiing Co., etc. with the ongoing Lee Mulcahy drama that has infested our community. In fact, it really applies…
