Support AVSC, a community asset

At Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club, we claim that all of our athletes learn our core values of commitment, teamwork and integrity, but how do we measure success? I often find myself wondering if Aspen is retaining its sense of community. This Fourth of July, AVSC had our annual community picnic, and it was our most successful to date. Seven hundred community members came out to support us and the athletes we represent. I also witnessed our core values at work.

Volunteer crews and the city parks department worked on their holiday to build a great event. We had former AVSC presidents selling tickets, playing in the band and flipping burgers. AVSC donors and board members were serving cold beverages and chatting up the crowd. A group of recent AVSC alumni were showcasing their latest project with their Pedall the Peaks booth, a nonprofit venture which involves biking between Colorado’s fourteeners, climbing the peaks and cleaning up trash and raising awareness along the way. AVSC coaches built confidence and laughter as children pushed through their fears to jump into our enormous airbag. Sponsored by Aspen Valley Hospital, Aspen Elks, Aspen Digger, ABCD Soderberg, Encore Electric and Aspen Rent-All (Alpine Bank?) this picnic helps us provide the best programs and scholarship funding possible for our athletes.

This winter, we will debut our newest training venues on Aspen Skiing Company’s world-class terrain at Highlands, which will allow athletes to train pre-season at home. This will eliminate costly travel and raise our level of excellence in both facilities and competition. Look for top national teams to partner with us; traveling to Aspen to train and support our local businesses. Our airbags and trampolines will be located permanently in a new and safe training venue at the Clubhouse. The AVSC Securing our Future Campaign is in its final stages, and I encourage you to get informed and involved. AVSC is your community asset, so thank you for coming out and supporting us.

Thank You!

Mark Cole

AVSC Executive Director
