Letter: Stop the gentrification of Basalt

Lowe Enterprises and the Downtown Area Advisory Committee plan to build a hotel, condos and residences along Two Rivers Road. The prices range from $400,000 to $900,000 — out of reach for working-class residents.

The advisory committee’s density plan will increase the elite population. The poorer pre-gentrification residents will not be able to afford increased rents and property taxes. Affordable housing should be a top priority for the Basalt Town Council.

Time is running out. They plan to break ground soon, and we need to act now.

Kimbo for Aspen City Council

|

Vote for Kimbo Brown-Schirato for council. She’s the right choice at the right time for Aspen. She listens, works extremely well with others, and she’s effective.
