Letter: Staff should be diverse, too
Staff should be diverse, too
While I wholeheartedly commend Basalt High School Principal David Schmid for his comments defining the school’s greatest strength as diversity, I also feel that a diverse student population is additionally served when the teaching and administrative staff also reflect a cultural range. Through observation and yearbook samplings, there appears to be only a smattering of such representation employed within the Roaring Fork School District.
Most of the secondary schools, in particular, contain a 50 to 65 percent Hispanic student population, yet it appears that very few teachers and zero administrative staff complement this standing.
Perhaps the 2015-16 school year will see the advance and realization of such a commitment. Kudos to Schmid!
