Letter: Sending prayers for homegrown Aspen star

Sending prayers for homegrown Aspen star

You may remember my nephew Andrew Papenfus, who was born and raised in Aspen graduating high school in 2010. Andrew made your sports headlines playing basketball under coach Ketchum’s fine coaching, which provided the foundation and springboard for Andrew to play Division 1 basketball for the Santa Clara University basketball team. In his senior year (this year), Andrew was honored as being selected captain of the Santa Clara Broncos.

Andrew was one of those kids who had his dreams come true with the help of his friends, family, faith, coaches, school, and, a lot of hard work and discipline. Andrew was always volunteering with younger kids to help them become the best they could be by setting an example and being there for them.

Andrew’s brother, Stephan, just sent out the following email, which I would like to share with you, as Andrew is facing the toughest challenge of his life on Sept. 23:

“Andrew’s surgeons are some of the best in the country and we pray that God will guide them through the challenges ahead.

“We ask that your prayers be offered for Andrew’s speedy and miraculous recovery. Andrew has always flourished from the love, support and laughter of his friends. You may not realize how important your words of support keep Andrew going. Please contact him through his email, Facebook, GoFundMe website, US mail or phone.”

Andrew Papenfus “Pappy” is home in Snowmass until Friday.

Thank you.
