Letter: Response about hotel rates

In response to Phyllis Bronson’s query, the date I researched Aspen room rates was Sept. 3, just at the start of Labor Day weekend (“Slumming,” Aspen Times 3/9/15).

The result was that only 5 hotels out of 19 charged more than $200/night, making Base2 on the high end of the scale, not the affordable end.

While Base 2 rates of $150-$200/night might be affordable in the high season, Mark Hunt has already publicly stated that his rates will go up during the busy times.

Further, there is no way to legally impose any rate restrictions upon either of his hotels.
