Letter: Read something other than Fox News

Look it up

Dear Editor:

Melanie Sturm should heed her own advice and really take Thomas Jefferson’s words to heart (“The media: What difference does it make?” Commentary, May 9, The Aspen Times). “When the press is free and every (wo)man is able to read, all is safe.”

She needs to read something other than Fox News. Here is something she has not read. During the period from 2001 to 2008, there were 54 attacks on U.S. consulates, and 13 State Department Americans died. There were three congressional hearings in total about those 54 attacks. There have been nine about Benghazi, and no other misdeeds have been reported. Please look it up.

In 2011, the State Department requested more funding for worldwide consulate protection and upgrades. The Republicans voted to cut it. Look it up.

Melanie, you know why the rest of the media has not picked up this Benghazi story? Because there is no story, there is no cover-up, and there is no misleading. Read something other than Fox News, please.
