Letter: Ralph’s many contributions to Aspen

With the passing of Ralph Melville, Aspen has lost a true local and I have lost a friend.

As true Christians, Ralph and his wife Marion practiced the teachings of Christ, rather than just preach them.

As a fellow founding member of Mountain Rescue Aspen, he was an inspiration and invaluable. Even if he had a lodge full of guests, when the call came, Ralph was there. After having a life-threatening fall on Maroon Peak, Ralph always mentioned his gratitude for the people who saved his life. He felt an obligation to pass on that help to others.

Ralph’s many contributions to Aspen are too numerous to list here.

Ralph could have written this: “Public service are the dues you pay to be a member of society.” — Teddy Roosevelt
