Letter: Pass foundation needs focus
As one of the founding board members of the Independence Pass Foundation, I want to thank Patty Simpson for her input on the pass. Bob Lewis, the founder of the foundation, wanted to stabilize and revegetate the pass cut slopes and control state maintenance from side casting material over the downslope edge of the road. Cleaning up the man-made intrusions on the natural view was important to Bob. Bob strongly opposed the road becoming a scenic byway, as it just meant more traffic. There are still several cut slopes to stabilize and many old powerlines and poles to clean up. Someone like Patty needs to be on the foundation’s board so it does not lose its mission again.
