Letter: ‘Now that was a rock concert’

People in my generation who were weaned on Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane have a hard time understanding the pull of today’s music.

But listening to No Doubt and Lenny Kravitz, I have to wake up. Gwen Stefani’s energy wrapped me in music and style. I was transfixed by this performance and surprised that I knew and loved so much of her music. Kravitz brought me down into a rock sound with powerful graphics, which spun me out. A very tight band wowed me. And as someone mentioned to me, “Now that was a rock concert.” I responded that it was as memorable as the Stones in Boulder sometime in the late ’70s.

Thank you, Jazz Aspen Snowmass. Happy 25th.
