Nothing to lose by voting for Torre

Dear Editor:

On Tuesday, Aspen will go into a runoff election between two good candidates, Steve Skadron and Torre. While I like and admire Steve, I am going to vote for Torre as my candidate for mayor of Aspen.

Partly my reason is a selfish one — by voting for Torre we get to keep both good men in the political system working for the best interests of Aspen. With Torre as mayor, Steve stays on council for another two years; if Steve becomes mayor, we have to go through the process of replacing him on council with uncertain results and we would lose Torre with his expertise, proven during his time as councilman.

I am quite certain that Aspen will have the benefit of Steve as mayor some day and that he will be a good one, but right now it is in the best interests of our town to vote Torre for mayor. I do believe that with his balanced views on what can be contentious differences in our community, he has the skills and ability to bring together the city’s disparate factions.

I do believe that Torre as Mayor will “bring unity, strengthen community, promote prosperity and create opportunity.”

Please vote Torre for mayor 2013 on Tuesday.

Catherine Garland
