Letter: Mending fences

Bert Myrin, as the new kid on the block, wants to mend personal relationships with the other four members of the City Council. That is well-intentioned, but the one fence everybody running for office stressed needed mending was the land-use code. Going forward from the first meeting of the new council, Myrin and the incumbent members should set forth a plan including a timetable to accomplish this task well before the next election starts two years hence. They should pursue it with myopic focus.

A revised land-use code that reflects the small-town values they all support and the uniqueness of Aspen and one robust enough to withstand assault by developers for variances is the goal. That would be the most positive step to eliminate much of the distrust and rancor that now permeates government-resident relationships and unify our community.
