Letter: Inhumane treatment of animals for human entertainment
Inhumane treatment of animals for human entertainment
Did you get to the Wheeler Opera House last night to watch dogs and cats doing tricks that are simply abusive? Then you had the pleasure of seeing the Popovich Comedy Pet Theater.
Did you see the cat walking upside down on a beam? Did you notice another cat using her front paws to shimmy across parallel bars with her body dangling and a petrified look on her face?
How about the dog on a tiny platform being balanced on a long pole supported by Gregory Popovich’s forehead? That dog looked terrified.
The dogs pranced on stage in ridiculous costumes doing some rather benign stunts, but nonetheless, only for the commercial use of animals to entertain us human beings.
But since we were told these are all rescue animals, it appears as if Popovich is doing a good deed and therefore, it warms everyone’s heart.
Haven’t we all been down this road long enough to understand that these are animals and they deserve better? This is especially true for rescue dogs and cats who may have already had a tough life. It is simply inhumane to make animals perform stunts that are unnatural.
