Letter: I want your vote
I am asking for your vote for mayor so that we can bring new leadership and increased accountability to City Hall. Aspen faces many serious issues and difficult challenges lie ahead for our city, but I believe that together, we can effect positive change. I am dedicated to the following: the Aspen Idea; the locals, who are the fabric of our community; and to the creation of an Aspen that is sustainable for businesses, families and visitors alike.
As mayor, I will represent Aspen by balancing the needs of the community and the resort. After 20 years in Aspen and eight years of City Council service, I know the issues as well as anyone. I have put forth actual suggestions for land-use code and design changes that represent community values and promote positive development. I am pro-business and support well-considered and efficient development.
If elected, I will continue to stand by our current housing partners and work to establish programs that enable smart, future planning. We must fully utilize our employee housing inventory while also ensuring that we can meet the needs of future Aspenites. Living and working in Aspen must be an achievable goal for our residents.
Aspen is a global leader on environmental issues and we must continue that trend. We live here to enjoy the outdoors — let’s make certain that our grandchildren will enjoy them too. A ban on plastic bags, mandated recycling and conservation programs are just the beginning; there are many more steps that we can take to achieve our green goals.
Our off-seasons have been overrun by construction projects. As a leader in City Hall, I will help to vet these capital improvement projects, present them to the public and move forward when necessary. We should lead by example and build what is needed, not just because we can afford it.
I believe in the people of our community, the hardworking city employees and the businesses that make Aspen thrive. What we need is the representation, leadership and accountability to bring all segments of our great town together to work toward our common goals.
If you have any questions for me regarding the issues in this campaign, please, contact me through TorreforMayor2015.com or call me directly at 970-948-2023. It’s time for positive change. I ask you to vote Torre for mayor. Thank you.

I would like to make a comment to Aspen-Pitkin County Housing Authority, city of Aspen, Aspen Skiing Co., etc. with the ongoing Lee Mulcahy drama that has infested our community. In fact, it really applies…
