Letter: How the West will be lost

How the West will be lost

Whatever you think of Putin, it’s been interesting to watch real leadership in action. I’m young enough to have witnessed only George C Scott’s “Patton” — who was the last real leader in America. Jimmy Carter was the last real man in the White House. All that followed were posers and hacks, if not criminals.

In a couple of weeks, Putin accomplished what we’ve not accomplished in a decade and a half of protecting “American interests” in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Notice Putin’s protection of Russian interest (the globally strategic naval base) was protecting the Russian people, while Washington doesn’t give a damn about lives. With them it’s all “American interests.”

Will our leaders take a moment to ponder real leadership and learn from it and get off their self-indulgent arses and actually uphold their oath of offices? Or will they continue to lie and cheat and twist the law to suit their criminal intent that has cost us many American lives, only to assist zealots like the Saudis with their own fundamentalist expansion because they’re the only dictators who will play with us, the oligarchs who will kowtow to our bidding for protection in a region sick and tired of the exploitation of Western manipulation.

Bullying by extortion, destroying economies and social structure, and playing one side against the other, only begets continuous war — the mainstay of Western economies, by the way — so much so that if peace were to break out across the globe, the wealth of the West would damn near evaporate because we’ve become addicted to a corporate welfare state for our Military Industrial Complex.

Will the charlatans in all the governments of the West come to understand the game is over and they have lost? The people of the earth have been given back what has been stolen from them. Will they repent and confess their treasonous ways? Or will we enjoy watching them lose everything to believing their own propaganda of exceptionalism (any truly honest man knows it is and was pure avarice and the other deadly sin) as all further implodes upon their feeble stabs of justifying their crimes.

Poschman can’t muzzle the public

I express my concern about Pitkin County commissioner and chair of Pitkin’s Board of Health Greg Poschman’s statement at the Jan.13, 2022, Board of Health meeting.
