Letter: Hans never got to realize his dream

Hans Gramiger and I started the project in the summer of 1975 or 1976.

It was before the Hyman Street Mall was created. I remember Hans bought me breakfast at the White Kitchen. We pulled up right in front.

We each climbed Shadow Mountain six to eight times that day with spools of rope. The rope was later used to pull up the cable, which was a part of the landscape for about 25 years.

Not everyone knows that Hans was in the International Brigade during the Spanish Civil War. He was in Franco’s prison for a period of time. I’m sorry that he was unable to realize his dream.
