Letter: Hair there and everywhere

According to the Encyclopedia of Hair: A Cultural History, Alexandre of Paris became one of the best known and most influential hairstylists of the 20th century. His clientele included such women as Elizabeth Taylor, Tippi Hedron, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren and Jacqueline Kennedy.

In Alexandre having been born during the year 1922, his career experienced the effects of two world wars, an international economic depression, the coming of age of women in business and politics, and an advancement in the importance of style during the latter half of the 20th century beyond any other period in history.

Insofar as women’s lives, fashion and hairstyle are concerned, fashion editor Robin Givham says, “I think the combination of politics and fashion is a natural one.”

One remembers Kennedy’s pillbox bob, Audrey Hepburn’s chignon and, of course, Farrah Fawcett’s long feather cut.

However, America and world are now immersed in a new and dangerous era, what has become to each nation on earth the crisis of domestic terrorism.

The Donald and the Newt may become an item, and hair has become an issue of sorts.

Enters now: Callista.

Cleverly, she has succeeded in combining politics and fashion, style with substance.

In having introduced the helmut, Callista Gingrich now offers women not only a new do but possible protection from shrapnel.
