Letter: Great effort on Buddy Race
Many people would agree there is no better way to start celebrating Independence Day than with Aspen’s favorite summer tradition: Boogie’s Buddy Race and 1-Mile Family Walk to benefit the Buddy Program! On Saturday, more than 900 people put on their favorite running (or walking) shoes to support our community’s youth.
Boogie’s Buddy Race wouldn’t be such a successful event without the generosity of the participants and the incredible work of many people whom we would like to thank: Erika Leavitt and Joey Woltemath, race producers; Maddie Hawken, registration manager; Ned Ryerson, course director; Lonnie and Michelle Somers at Hallucination Sports, race timing; David Bach of KSPN, our fabulous emcee; Caitlyn Cunningham and Hans Hohl, our amazing volunteer coordinators; Davis Tuttle, finish-line setup; Carolyn Barabe at Aspen Skiing Co.; Cecil Snyder, course setup; Martha Madsen; the Severy family; Jeannie Walla and Rollin Simmons, our wonderful national-anthem singers; Deborah Hutchinson of Aspen Ambulance; Dave Jensen of WIN Health; Himat from BioSync; and Warren Klug of Aspen Square.
A huge thank-you to our more than 100 volunteers, without whom this event would not be possible. A special shout-out to Scott Dorfman, Ned Sullivan, Jackie Kasabach, Joe and Leslie Waters, Vivian Friedlander, Rich Burkley, Heather and Greg Rydell, Linda Vitti, Susan Cross, Seth Turok, Sue Capiel, Carol King, Don Shinault, Juanita Allen-Smith, Michelle Goodhard, Marcella Marnett, the Ferraro family and Jo Ann Rodriguez.
The Buddy Program is also thankful to Boogie’s, our title sponsor, for its continued support over the years. Pennie Lee, thanks for your dedication and support! A big thank-you to our other sponsors: The Aspen Times, Reese Henry & Co., Alpine Bank, Aspen magazine, Galerie Maximillian, Carol Dopkin of Aspen Snowmass Sotheby’s International Real State, Aspen Club & Spa, Belly Up, Children’s Hospital Colorado, KSPN, Aspen Public Radio, Aspen 82, Paradise Bakery & Cafe, Clark’s Market, KIND Healthy Snacks, WIN Health Institute, BioSync and Himat Massage, and Scheinker Investment Partners.
Finally, a big thank-you to Boogie Weinglass for all of his support over the years! Boogie has not just been a sponsor of the Race for 30 years but also really put the Buddy Program on the map in 2000 by hosting the first Bash for the Buddies (aka “Boogie’s Bop”) and carried the organization on his shoulders for many, many years. He is a truly caring person and committed to the Roaring Fork Valley community, especially the children. We are thrilled to be going back to Boogie’s for the Bash on Thursday. Limited seating is available, so if you don’t have your tickets yet, get them today!
The Buddy Program is proud to say that this past year we passed a major milestone by serving 1,098 youths and their families. Without the support of our community, we couldn’t do so much for our youth. Thank you for your participation, enthusiasm and support this weekend and throughout the year!
