Letter: Grateful for the appreciation

From everyone at the Aspen Police Department and the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, we would like to thank the Aspen Elks Lodge No. 224 for hosting their annual Law Enforcement Dinner on May 15. We would like to extend additional thanks for the hospitality shown by members of Elks Lodge No. 224 to the families of our officers and the acknowledgment of their role in providing daily support to our officers in their policing careers.

The dinner, held in recognition of National Law Enforcement Memorial Day and National Police Week, was a reminder to all of how fortunate we are to live and work in Aspen. The shooting of Colorado State Patrol Trooper Hofacker two weeks ago is a stark reminder of the risks faced by police officers not only nationwide, but locally.

We would like to offer special thanks to Rebecca Hodgson for drafting a proclamation that was presented at last week’s Aspen City Council meeting, declaring the week of May 12th through 18th “Aspen Police Appreciation Week.” Community support such as this is sincerely appreciated as well as humbling.

The Aspen Police Department and Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office appreciate the support and trust the Elks and the community place in us as peace officers. We will always attempt to live up to your expectations.
