Letter: Grateful for community’s generosity

All of us here at the Aspen Homeless Shelter would like to express our gratitude to all the generous donors, local businesses and volunteers that have provided the much needed support for our first critical year of self-funding. We are deeply touched by the generosity of this community.

We continue to serve with a lot of belt tightening and we are working on long-term sustainability, which includes our overnight program at St. Mary Church that allows our clients a warm place to sleep indoors during the coldest winter months.

Our gratitude goes out to all our generous donors, but especially Boogie, Fidel Duke, Jake Mascotte, Lawrence Altman, Aspen Community Foundation, Pitkin County and the city of Aspen. Every donation, large and small, has made it possible for us to help our society’s most vulnerable members.

Just as important are our in-kind donations by Whole Foods, clothing, sleeping bags and tents by the Thrift Shop of Aspen, cooking by Cathy Skutley Catering, McDonalds and Domino’s Pizza. Countless volunteers have inspired us by providing food and their precious time to pay it forward to the less fortunate.

We are so thankful for the tremendous community support.

If you would like to help our homeless get through yet another Aspen winter, donations can be made to Aspen Homeless Shelter, 405 Castle Creek Road, No. 16 Aspen, CO. 81611, or online at http://www.aspensafetynet.org.

We want to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!
