Letter: Fracking isn’t the answer
Mike Littwin tells us about a possible initiative about fracking (“The Great Colorado Fracking Wars,” Commentary, July 19, The Aspen Times). I am opposed to fracking because too little is known about the long-term impact. Furthermore, I am opposed to climate change caused by fossil fuels.
Why are oil and gas companies drilling 20,000 feet to frack and go through several layers of geothermal energy? We get free energy from the sun, rivers, etc.
Colorado should make the use of solar electric and convection panels mandatory for new construction (no furnaces or boilers). Retrofitting should be state financed with savings from gas and electric bills to pay for it.
