Letter: Does Aspen really need another beer restaurant?

Not another place for beer

Does Aspen really need another beer restaurant? Especially one located in a residentially zoned neighborhood? Would this use be allowed in other residential neighborhoods? Will another beer restaurant serve the needs of residents and tourists of all ages living and visiting our city? Will it add to the allure and persona of Aspen? There seem to be other proposals before the council that are more innovative and not redundant (I hear there are currently more than 60 eating establishments in Aspen), for example the Aspen Science Center. If the Aspen Brewing Co. needs or wants to expand their current commercially zoned Hopkins Street location, why don’t they just lease the vacant Ute restaurant space? I do like the incubator idea and would hope that it could be incorporated in one of the other proposals, but keep in mind it’s not the applicants primary use of the building.
