Letter: Cyclists must slow down

On July 29 a few years ago, I sent a letter titled “Bike path madness” concerning the dangerous intersection of the Rio Grande bike path and Hooks Lane Basalt, directly in front of my house.

And as expected, another collision between a bicyclist and motorist occurred. I refuse to use the term “accident” as approximately 99 percent of the bike riders do not stop! This necessitated a visit by Basalt Fire and Rescue as well as an Eagle County deputy.

Please, people, be careful! Someone is going to die or be seriously injured, and I do not want to be a witness to that.

Dwight F. Ferren
