Letter: Culture at the Crystal Palace

Hats off to our local boys at Gravity Productions and to everyone who contributed to and attended some of their events at the Crystal Palace over the past three months! Sure, plenty of people meandered through the historic building solely to have a few drinks and hit on that liftie they have been trying to track down. For every one of those nightlife tourists, there were two people genuinely involved in local art, music, food, performance and politics. You know, those things that make up the C-word: culture.

Increasingly, it feels that culture outside of outdoor activities in Aspen only pops up to appease the big money. How ironically beautiful that a locally inspired pop-up venue burned the torch bright for passionate and artistic young adults in the Roaring Fork Valley. I am sure it was not always easy, guys, but thanks for persevering. Not many others could have pulled it off.
