Letter: Cleaning up the rivers

Love Your Community Day 2015 at the Buddy Program was a huge success with more than 15 Little Buddies and their parents, siblings, friends and rock-star Big Buddies coming out to the Roaring Fork Conservancy’s 17th annual Fryingpan River Cleanup Day on April 25!

There was no denying that the cold April morning made it difficult to get out of bed for this, but in the end, not a single volunteer regretted it. After a delicious, hot breakfast and doughnuts provided by the Roaring Fork Conservancy and the Basalt Lions Club, we set out for the riverbanks to work. There was a shocking amount of garbage in and around both the Fryingpan and Roaring Fork rivers; kids and adults alike were astounded by the need for this work and proud of their contribution to the health of these vital natural resources. The Roaring Fork and Fryingpan rivers span more than 60 miles from Aspen to Glenwood Springs and are considered two of the world’s most renowned fisheries. Thank you to everyone who participated, congratulations on working as volunteers for your community and thank-you to the Roaring Fork Conservancy for inviting us to participate in this great event!

If you were not able to participate in the Fryingpan River Cleanup Day, or if you are inspired to continue your work as a volunteer, please remember to check the Buddy Program’s website for a long list of other local places and organizations that need your help at http://www.buddyprogram.org.

More kindness, less judgment with Mulcahy

I would like to make a comment to Aspen-Pitkin County Housing Authority, city of Aspen, Aspen Skiing Co., etc. with the ongoing Lee Mulcahy drama that has infested our community. In fact, it really applies…
