Letter: City Council needs a REALTOR®

Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Aspen Board of Realtors, we would like to congratulate our new mayor, Steve Skadron, and new City Council members Ann Mullins and Art Daily on their election victories. We also would like to thank you for participating in our April candidates forum.

As we noted from your campaigns, one of the main issues facing Aspen is its economic sustainability. The members of the Aspen Board of Realtors agree with your position and understand that a healthy real estate economy drives a strong local economy.

In the next few weeks, one of the most important decisions you face will be to choose a City Council member to fill the vacancy created by the mayoral election. The Aspen Board of Realtors recommends that the new City Council choose someone from the real estate community to fill that vacancy. We feel the City Council would benefit from someone who understands the importance of maintaining an environment that draws tourists and buyers to the Aspen area and who is well versed in issues impacting the health of the real estate industry.

We understand that the vitality of the entire Roaring Fork Valley depends on the preservation of Aspen and all of its special characteristics.

Thank you for your service and for your consideration.
