Letter: Bring Butch back to Basalt

It appears that Butch’s Lobster Shack, an iconic fixture in downtown Basalt, is about to move to Carbondale. It also appears that the Basalt Town Council has abrogated its authority in matters concerning what businesses would be allowed to operate in Basalt and given it to the local business association. Anything that hinted of competition could be denied access. It appears that is exactly what happened. For a town government that professes an interest in revitalizing the downtown core in Basalt, this is incomprehensible. So Carbondale gains a valuable asset to add to its already thriving downtown core, and Basalt loses a proven asset to add to its downtown core. The solution is simple: Give Butch the space he needs, and beg him to come back.
