Letter: Back in the running for mayor

Back in the running for mayor

I am proud to announce that I am throwing my hat in the ring again. I am running for mayor this year after coming in second by a slim margin two years ago. In the past two years, I have not seen the changes or leadership that Aspen deserves.

My top priorities are to make code changes that reflect community values and provide for positive development. I believe we need City Hall leadership from the City Council, saying “No” to a new, bigger City Hall and better oversight on capital projects, like the Gondola Plaza/Durant Avenue intersection or the Castle Creek Bridge proposal. I seek to support and promote local businesses and provide opportunities for young Aspen. I want to help maintain and strengthen our existing affordable-housing program and properties, like partnering with Centennial residents for solutions. I want to continue forwarding environmental leadership with community programs and honor the community’s “No” vote on the hydroelectric plant.

Now is the time to lend your help for a better Aspen. I want to hear what you think. To contact me or lend your support, please email me at aspentorre@gmail.com; write to Torre for Mayor 2015, P.O. Box 2230, Aspen, CO 81612; or call me at 970-948-2023, and I will be across from Paradise Bakery in Aspen on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please stop by.
