AVSC needs your support

Uncertainty about funding for Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club’s adaptive skiing program recently prompted us to reach out to the greater community for help. The response from our friends, families and other locals has been overwhelming; we are greatly touched by the support from the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond.

AVSC is proud to say that an anonymous donor has stepped up to help our 20 athletes try to reach their paralympic dreams in Sochi. Funding should carry the program through April. That means we are out of the woods for now.

But competing at the highest levels in any sport requires year-round programming, so our fundraising mission is by no means complete. Please continue to keep us in mind this season and make a point of introducing yourself to our athletes on the slopes. Or drop by the AVSC-Adaptive office, located in Aspen Highlands Village.

On Friday, we are hosting a fundraiser at the Belly Up, where two films will be screened, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. We welcome everyone to join us for a fun evening.

You will have a great opportunity to see the athletes in action later this winter. AVSC will be hosting the Adaptive National Championships at Buttermilk/Tiehack, Feb. 10-13. Join us at Tiehack as we watch this incredible team compete in Downhill and Super-G in our own backyard. This will be the final domestic event prior to the Sochi Paralympics.

Thank you for giving us that chance, and thank you for making our program possible this year. We are grateful!
