Letter: Aspen’s forward thinking

Aspen’s forward thinking

I was delighted to learn about Aspen achieving its decade-plus goal of running on 100 percent renewable energy and becoming only the third city in the nation to achieve this goal.

As a leader in forward-thinking policies, Aspen has already served as a shining example of what Coloradans can achieve when they work together. Having already been at an impressive 75 to 80 percent use of renewable energy, the fact that Aspen came together as a community and added to its wind power to achieve a full 100 percent shift to energy generated from natural resources is admirable.

Aspen demonstrates that with thoughtful planning and commitment over time, a town can rely upon green energy resources such as wind power, solar power, hydropower and geothermal heat. Aspen shows this is not only possible, but it is a smart goal that can make our communities more sustainable, help create jobs and work toward building an economy that works for all Coloradans.

I am proud to represent a community like Aspen at the Capitol and look forward to continuing this important discussion about making Colorado a leader in renewable energy and a diversified economy.
