Hospital drops ball on Schultz exit

I have read the article in The Aspen Times May 23 edition regarding the termination of Dr. John Schultz. I am very disappointed that Dr. Schultz is being terminated. Dr. Schultz, though fairly young, brings a “new-school modern technology” to this valley, which is needed here. Experience is virtuous, but only when kept up with the times.

I am not surprised by Dr. Rodman’s actions in terminating Dr. Schultz’s contract, but I am surprised the hospital board’s members, whom I highly respect, did not investigate this matter further, rather then just accepting Dr. Rodman’s request to just “boot out” Dr. Schultz from practicing here.

I think if you ask any of the med techs, nurses, or other medical people who have worked with Dr. Schultz, and especially his patients, you will get a different take than the one portrayed by Dr. Rodman.

I happen to be one of those patients. I had hernia surgery by Dr. Schultz last month. After getting misdiagnosed, and putting up with the pain for over a month, I finally had the good fortune of seeing Dr. Schultz, who correctly diagnosed the problem and immediately gave me the necessary surgery to correct the problem. His care, concern, professionalism and handling of the problem was impeccable.

We spend millions of dollars for a more modern, up-to-date hospital. How about the same for bringing in competent “new-age” doctors like Dr. Schultz? Do we want a hospital that only accepts the “good old boys?”
