About picking things up

Some random thoughts for spring: There seems to be a lot of talk about poop in the papers lately. Props to the person who placed all those poop flags at the bottom of the Smuggler trailhead to signify all the land mines that people don’t pick up. Imagine if someone did that for all the cigarette butts that are left all over town. There would be flags everywhere, thousands of them. Now, dog poop usually breaks down in a few months, but cigarette butts stick around for many years. Maybe we can ask this flag person to take on this monumental task, or maybe smokers could practice a little common courtesy.

Speaking of poop, I had the opportunity to witness our former bike-loving, picnic-crashing mayor lending a hand in cleanup at City Market. It seems our former fearless leader found an old, moldy half of sandwich by the meat department. He, of course, picked it up and announced what he found and proceeded to place it upon the meat scale. Well, the butcher was not too pleased about our El Jefe’s selection of landing site, especially when there was a trash can nearby. An argument ensued in both broken English and Spanish; the deli girl also piped in her displeasure. All in all, a very happy time at City Market.

Spring has sprung.
