Letter: A singular explanation
A singular explanation
So, Lo Semple relies on a brass spike driven into the ground 30 years ago by a government surveyor that says “Highlands Peak” on it as proof the name of the bowl below it is also “Highlands” with an “s.”
Thirty years ago, I was already a full-grown Aspen Mountain man, so I wish those surveyors would have asked me first before screwing up their spike. The least they could have done is looked at their own U.S. Geological Survey map of 1954 to see the name is truly “Highland Peak,” no “s” in sight.
